Welcome to the official home of the Greater Los Angeles DogKnic™
Puppy Imprinters Academy is thrilled to be hosting this year’s 3rd annual DogKnic™ at our new community training field, located across from the South Los Angeles Animal Shelter. We invite dog owners of all backgrounds and all ages to celebrate our canine friends at a midsummer festival. At DogKnic, members of the community will have a chance to take part in training demonstrations, visit with local trainers, rescue groups, adoption organizations, visit booths of collar-and-leash, training equipment, and pet-care vendors, and have access to a free microchip insertion and registration service (courtesy of Project Unleashed).
PIA founder and veteran dog trainer Larry Hill has been working with the Downtown Dog Rescue and the Amanda Foundation on an innovative new program that has helped more than 400 pet owners keep their dogs out of the South L.A. Animal Shelter. In only two months of service, community members in need have received medical, licensing, spay-and-neuter, and training services to keep their dogs safely and responsibly at home. 10% of these dogs are in need of obedience training and behavioral adjustment. Their owners came to Larry Hill for guidance and education and have improved their relationship with their pets significantly. PIA aims to continue this free service for the new training field, but we need help!
Proceeds from this year’s DogKnic will go toward beautification and improvements at the the new community training field. The City of Los Angeles has called upon Puppy Imprinters and our collaborators to activate and improve this empty lot, just a few steps away from the shelter. It’s in rough shape, but its one acre that volunteers have been working on to make it feel like a home for our non-profit obedience training program. Members of the community will have the opportunity to network with other dog-owners and to find out about a myriad of resources available in their neighborhood.
DOGKNIC is a free event promoting greater awareness of pet-ownership responsibility. For the safety all, dogs who attend must be social and have proof of current rabies vaccinations.

The PUPPY IMPRINTERS ACADEMY (PIA) mission is to promote responsible pet ownership in cities across the country through awareness, education, and training. PIA believes dogs are amazing animals that if properly trained can be amazing pets and assets to society. Our charity collaborates with various groups within the pet community to offer needed services, knowledge, and training to ultimately better the lives of our canine companions.
Puppy Imprinters Academy has been featured in the news: In the Los Angeles Times: “Taking on Tough Dogs in Tough Neighborhoods” and on public radio’s Hear in the City: “Pit Bulls and people who love them”.
Please consider supporting us in obtaining and installing fencing and storage to keep the lot secure and safe for continued use. All donations of funds and material are tax deductible. We would be very happy to offer banner / placard recognition to supporting corporations and organizations. To donate, please click below.
